Aaahh . . .the calming and intellectual voice of Jim Wallis, so missed from his regular appearances on the pages of Sojourner’s magazine. If Jim Wallis is here I know I’m in the right place.

"On 25 June 1493, King Ferdinand secured another papal bull, Piis fidelium, appointing him apostolic vicar in the Indies. Father Bernardo Buil of the Order of Minims left Cádiz for America on 25 September 1493, on the second Columbus expedition. Once on the island of Hispaniola, Buil saw the effects of the conquistadors and quarreled with Columbus over the harsh treatment of colonists and Indians. Seeing that the situation for evangelization and catechizing was impossible, Buil left for Spain, defeated, within six months on 3 December 1494.[13] Two other friars whom he had left in the Americas returned to Spain in 1499." Source: Wikipedia. Let's just keep in mind that just because some one was white and European and Christian at the time of Columbus didn't mean they wanted to conquer new lands and plunder gold. T The reason IMHO why there is such a divide between white people today is because no one wants to be associated with "those" white folk, you know the white Christian nationalist kind. And this guy says it too: "We want there to be a deeper and clearer understanding of what white Christian nationalism is. We want to be clear that it’s not all Christians, not all white people.” Source: https://isps.yale.edu/news/blog/2022/10/understanding-white-christian-nationalism#:~:text=Adherents%20believe%20in%20the%20idea,non%2DChristians%2C%20and%20immigrants.
