Thank you for this reminder to be grateful every day, even when the outside world is topsy-turvy and uncertain. I am grateful today, for example, of the legacy left us by Jimmy Carter.
Thanks Jim! The US autocrat’s election has forced me back to our only real security: God. These devastating events draw me deeper in my walk with Jesus. I am totally thankful that he is always there for all of us. 50 years ago this month, you were in Vancouver teaching students at Regent College. I was among them and have followed you ever since. I am very grateful to God for you Jim!
We here in Melbourne, Australia are grateful that you, Joy and Jack could visit and stay with us by the beach - and together see in this new challenging year, 2025. We hold onto faith-based hope with you, and prayer for you all, for your nation and for our world. Merridie & Tim
I have written in a gratitude journal every day for years and find in very effective in reminding myself that even on the very worst days, there are many, many things for which to be grateful--the concrete act of putting pen to paper reminds me that I have the abilities to see, to move my fingers to grasp a pen, to have light to write---and so on and so on. Focusing on the simple basics, which is all that we really have in the long run, and in the grounding of faith, gives me some perspective when my heart and soul are wounded by the goings on of evil.

Thank you for this beautiful example of gratitude and living with Hope, even in the shadow of deep uncertainty.
Jim, I'm having a faith crisis. I live my live for Jesus, but I'm not sure that my church does. I'm leaving the church in general but love Jesus.

Gratitude is, indeed, hard.
I'm going back to my own practices of such just to get through these days.
I keep praying and meditating on Psalm 46:10. Be still and know that I am God.
May democracy not die in darkness, Lord.
Thank you, Jim.
Are you familiar with the decades old work of Br. David Steindl-Rast?
His many books are invaluable!
Cheers! (as Bill Coffin liked to sign off)
Love/peace,
Elizabeth
