Things shut down at the end of August in Washington, D. C., when Senators, Members of Congress, and even the President all go away for an end of summer rest. I do too. And when away, I always think and feel that I should do this more often--more regular times, beyond vacations, to step away from work for times of sabbath, rest, and retreat.
In my column two weeks ago I shared a reflective documentary on the place I annually go away to--Block Island--called Seeking Shelter.
Today I want to simply share two pictures. The first is of the beach I love to walk on here and the second is of the sunset that everyone here can see by just looking up every evening--two things I want to do more of this year back home--walking and looking up. I pray the same for all of you in your own ways and places.
Rest up and renew, as we have difficult days ahead full of deep challenges and new opportunities.
Blessings,
Jim
